Introduction to Irish Song: The Vocal Tradition Dublin born singer Melanie O'Reilly gives an introductory workshop on the tradition of Irish song and singing. Songs of celebration, laments, lullabies, "lilting" (mouth music), and sean-nós ("old-style") will be demonstrated. Students will have the opportunity to sing some examples of the Irish tradition, and will be encouraged to sing in Gaelic (to be learned phonetically), as well as English. Some songs will be unaccompanied, as in the Irish tradition. This is a workshop that will be fun as well as informative! Melanie O'Reilly a native of Dublin, is an internationally known Celtic jazz performer/singer, song writer and music educator from Ireland. She was a multi-award winner of Feis Ceol competitions (vocals) and she is accredited by both the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Goldsmiths College in London.
